In a vibrant and historic gathering, the Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio London Chapter celebrated its 21st Anniversary in a triple-header event that combined a thanksgiving celebration, fundraising campaign, and a new members’ induction ceremony. The grand occasion, held in Bromley, South East London, attracted dignitaries, cultural leaders, members of the Nigerian community in the UK, and well-wishers from across Europe.
The evening marked a major milestone for the chapter, reflecting over two decades of cultural advocacy, youth development, and community empowerment within the Ibibio diaspora in the United Kingdom.
Empowering the Future: Skill Acquisition Fundraising Initiative
One of the focal points of the evening was the official unveiling of the Skill Acquisition & Empowerment Project, a transformative initiative designed to support youths through vocational training and entrepreneurship. The project aims to create access to practical skills such as tailoring, ICT, welding, catering, digital marketing, and small business management—both in the UK and back home in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
Guests, partners, and members made generous financial pledges and donations toward the cause, reinforcing the Mboho’s reputation as a community committed not just to cultural preservation, but also to social impact.
Celebrating Brotherhood: New Members Inducted
The event also witnessed the formal induction of new members into the prestigious Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio brotherhood. The induction ceremony, conducted with traditional decorum and symbolic rites, welcomed fresh faces who pledged their loyalty to the values of unity, discipline, service, and excellence.
Certificates, insignias, and welcome gifts were presented to the inductees as they were officially welcomed into the global Ibibio cultural movement.
Honoring a Legacy: Saluting the Outgoing Administration
The chapter took time to pay glowing tributes to Akparawa Ignatius Etukudo, whose tenure was widely recognized as a period of renewal and organizational reform.
“Under Akparawa Etukudo’s steady leadership, this chapter regained its structure, voice, and vision. His administration not only stabilized our internal systems but also laid the blueprint for sustainable progress,” said one speaker during the tribute segment.
Side Attractions: Award Presentations, Raffle Draw, and More
Adding spark and flair to the evening were side attractions that blended celebration with tradition and entertainment:

The chapter recognized several outstanding individuals for their pioneering efforts and continued service.
Among those honoured was the Pioneer Chairman of MMI London Chapter, Akparawa Rev. Uko Obot. who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his foundational role in establishing and nurturing the chapter.
Additional awards were presented to past officers, women leaders, and supporters who have made lasting contributions to the growth of the chapter. - 🎟️ Raffle Draw Extravaganza:
Attendees were treated to a fun-filled raffle draw, with winners walking away with prizes ranging from home appliances to fashion accessories and gift hampers. The raffle segment brought lighthearted excitement and joy to the gathering. - 🎶 Cultural Performances & Entertainment:
The event featured traditional Ibibio music, cultural dance performances, and live entertainment by a UK-based Ibibio artist, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with pride and heritage.
Special Appreciation
The Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio London Chapter expresses deep gratitude to the International President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio Akparawa James Edet NPOM for his strategic oversight and moral support, especially during times of transition.
The Mayor of Bromley represented by his deputy Councillor Jonathan Andrews who expressed his profound appreciate to MMI London chapter for their immersed contribution to the society.
The chapter also extends heartfelt appreciation to the UK High Commission for their ongoing encouragement of cultural organizations and for providing a conducive environment for civic engagement and diaspora-led development

In a landmark development for the Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio (MMI) London Chapter, a new Executive Council has been successfully elected to steer the affairs of the organization for the next four years. The election, which was initially trailed by internal contention and calls for its cancellation, was eventually upheld after a rigorous and transparent ratification process conducted by the chapter’s electoral oversight committee and key stakeholders.
The process, although tense at moments, reaffirmed the democratic tenets upon which the Mboho stands, strengthening the collective resolve of members to move forward in unity, peace, and purpose.
The outgoing Chairman-in-Council, Akparawa Ignatius Etukudo, was honored and celebrated for his dedicated leadership, which provided structure and vision during a critical transitional period for the chapter. Under his guidance, the chapter gained greater visibility and experienced a renewed sense of identity within the broader Ibibio community in the United Kingdom.
Following the formal ratification of the electoral results, the new officers were announced and officially inaugurated to take up their roles with immediate effect. As approved MMI working committee and rectification committee led by Akprawa. Prof. Maurice and Akaparawan Grace Akpan.

Chairman’s Remarks:
- In his acceptance speech, Akparawa Imaikop Mmah , the newly elected Chairman, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the members and the President and the UK high commission for the trust reposed in him and the new executive team.
- “This is not just a personal victory or an individual mandate—it is a call to collective action. We are here to serve, to unify, and to elevate the voice of Ibibio sons and daughters across the UK. Our vision is rooted in inclusivity, accountability, and cultural renaissance. I want to especially thank the outgoing IPC, Akparawa Ignatius Etukudo, whose stewardship paved the way for a more structured and progressive chapter. We are building on that foundation with fresh energy and renewed focus.”
- He emphasized the administration’s commitment to youth engagement, cultural preservation, capacity building, and intergenerational mentorship. Akparawa Imaikpo also promised regular town halls, outreach initiatives, and a transparent financial management system to ensure all members are carried along in the journey ahead and most especially to delivery on the skill acquisition project..
A New Dawn for Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio London
- The atmosphere during the election and inauguration was both celebratory and reflective. Members expressed optimism that the new leadership would foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and excellence.
- Observers from sister chapters and affiliate organizations within the Ibibio diaspora community in Europe lauded the London chapter for upholding democratic values and navigating internal disagreements through constructive engagement and institutional integrity.

Ati Annang fundraising event 01/07/2023
Ati Annang Community organised Fund raising, Dinner and Dance (Building a strong and sustainable Community) event for a project back home. This was well attended by members of MMI chapters including London Chapter. Congratulations to MMI UK which Donated £1100. London chapter Chairman had this to say ‘On behalf of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio UK Commission. I wish to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the entire leadership and members of LONDON, MANCHESTER, ESSEX & HEATHROW Chapters. Together we can create hope in the world by working together in love 🥰
- MMI London chapter was the first chapter inaugurated outside Nigeria. It started its humble beginning with its first meeting in the London residence of the coordinator Akparawa Uko Obot in 2001. It subsequently grew from strength to strength in membership and was officially inaugurated as an MMI chapter in June 2003 with Akparawa Uko Obot as its Chairman.
- The birth and success of MMI London chapter paved the way for the inauguration of numerous MMI chapters in the diaspora.
- On 14th November 2020 during the COVID lockdown, MMI London chapter was the very first chapter to conduct a virtual general election. This was conducted peacefully and successfully via Zoom with the attendance of the High Commission which then formed a template for future virtual general elections in MMI.
- MMI London chapter is still strongly supporting the MMI Unity school in Uyo with financial aid through its members and as a chapter.
- MMI London chapter is a proud sponsor of the UK-registered charity – ‘Save the children’.
- MMI London chapter have a great passion to support disadvantaged children and young adults in Akwa ibom and in London through empowering initiatives and financial support to charitable causes as well as registered charities.
- On 10th October 2021, MMI London chapter joined forces with the registered charity ‘Save the children’ who have been supporting children in need all over the global for over a century, in a Half marathon fundraising event at the London Royal Park.
- 4 chapter members – Akparawa Ignatius Etukudoh, Akparawa Victor Etim James, Akparawa Imaikop Mmah and Akparawa- awan Betty Udoh all valiantly volunteered to run the half marathon and they all successfully completed the 21km race in an average of 2 hours.
- MMI London chapter proudly raised one of the highest funds for the 2021 event with a total of £1,210.
- MMI London chapter is the patron of the “MMI London chapter young Ibibio skilled initiative” in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
MMI London Chapter Annual BBQ event 8th July, 2023,
Took place in Brunswick Court, Tompion Street, London, EC1V 0ER. On behalf of the Chairman & Exco, The Vice Chair thanked everyone for turning up despite the rain and traffic disruptions etc and gave a big thank you also to all those that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it all happen. Members were tremendously entertained with Music, Comedy, Dancing competitions (won by our dear Eka Iban), and surplus Food and Drinks. The residents also loved it and asking for repeat performance. MMI London chapter always comes out on top whenever we join hands & put our minds to working together.
Face to face General meeting, 11th March, 2023.
MMI London chapter First Face to face General Meeting after the Covid lockdown took place on 11th of March, 2023. The Venue for the meeting was HONEYPOT AFRICAN RESTAURANT & BAR, 44B BROMLEY ROAD, LONDON BR1 4PP. It was an exciting time for members to interact on a face-to-face basis with others. Feedback from members stated meeting was highly successful, It was indeed a nice evening and as expected, there was enough to eat, drink and to take away. During the meeting the host, Akparawanwan Mfon Ibanga was very pleased and tempted members with delicious Suya.

- MMI London chapter makes it a priority to meet and fellowship by organizing parties that bring members, their families, and friends together with regular celebrations.
- MMI London chapter hosts a yearly summer barbeque party for the attendance of all its members, family, and friends to freely attend. This event is always a yearly success with lots of delicious food, drink, dance, and entertainment.
Rev. (Fr.) Patrick Udotai’s event, 30/6/23
MMI London Chapter members were invited with a grateful heart to the 30th Priestly Anniversary celebration and book presentation on Friday 30/06/2023, 6.00 pm by Rev. (Fr.) Patrick Udotai a member of MMI London Chapter. Venue: St. Elphege Catholic Church, 120 Stafford Road, Wallington, SM6 9AY. This was well attended by members.

Attended by Akparawa- awan Comfort (Women’s leader) and Akparawa-awan Christiana Iwa who represented our chapter at the event on Saturday, 22nd April 2023. They Presented gift on behalf of MM London Chapter. We try to be there for each other (Oneness for Service) and Heathrow Chapter says London Chapter is one of the best chapters they have ever worked with. They stated they were all proud for making the ‘ birthday recognition’ a success while thanking all for lovely wishes and blessings.

Funeral of Stella Eno Umorok 14th April 2023.
The Funeral service of Late Akpn Hon Mrs Stella Eno Umorok MMI, Heathrow Chapter, was held at Methodist Primary School, Ete, Ikot Abasi LGA. Members of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio were fully on ground participating. The late Akpn was the beloved wife of Akpawara Eno Etesin Umorok – Director of Protocol MMI UK High Commission. May the Soul of our dear sister Rest in Peace and May God give her loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss!🙏
- MMI London chapter is a true embodiment of the MMI motto of ‘oneness in service’. As a chapter, we always stand to maintain love and support among our members, and so we dutifully always stand by each other.
- Mboho mkparawa ibibio London chapter was the very first chapter to be inaugurated outside of Nigeria. Since MMI London chapter’s birth in June 2003, Mboho mkpara ibibio has had numerous inaugurations of chapters all over the diaspora.
